Defending NTT IndyCar Series champion and Indy 500 pole-sitter Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda was the fastest on Carb Day as Chip Ganassi Racing maintained their position as the fastest team in each session. The Iceman set the fastest speed of 228.323MPH.
Team Penske was extremely fast on Friday with Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Chevrolet second with a 227.157MPH just ahead of teammate Josef Newgarden and Conor Daly.
Marco Andretti had a great session as he ended the day in fifth place with a 226.396MPH and ended the session just ahead of Will Power in the No.12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet who told Paddock Eye after the session that his car feels really good in race trim and anything can happen in the race on Sunday.
Scott McLaughlin was seventh just ahead of Tony Kanaan and Takuma Sato and Sage Karam who rounded out the top ten.
Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet was eleventh fastest just ahead of Max Chilton and Alexander Rossi. AJ Foyt Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.14 ROKiT Chevrolet was 14th with a 225.163MPH just ahead of Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya.
JR Hildebrand was was 17th just ahead of Ed Jones and Graham Rahal. Ryan Hunter Reay was 20th just ahead of James Hinchcliffe and Alex Palou. Marcus Ericsson was 23rd just ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and Dalton Kellett.
Stefan Wilson was 26th just ahead of Santino Ferrucci and Colton Herta and Jack Harvey. Ed Carpenter rounded out the top 30 just ahead of Rinus Veekay and Simona De Silvestro while Pietro Fittipaldi rounded out the order.
