Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon had a fantastic Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline race at Gateway Motorsports Park last weekend. The New Zealander came from seventh on the grid to finish the race on the podium in second place behind race winner and championship leader Josef Newgarden.
The Iceman heads to Watkins Glen this weekend, a track he has won at four time during his Verizon IndyCar Series career.
Speaking following Saturday nights race at Gateway Motorsports Park, Dixon commented by saying:
I’ll be honest, we didn’t expect to finish on the podium. “But I think we saw in the warmup (Friday night practice) that the gap had closed significantly with the trim level that we were able to achieve. I think mechanically our car was very good.
“Then also we had some misfortunes (for other drivers) that played in to help us out, especially with Simon and Josef in Turn 1.
Dixon has secured six podium finishes this season including his victory in the Kohler Grand Prix at the Road America circuit.
The Iceman is hoping that he can have strong finishes next time out at The Glen where he won last season and at the season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma and that at the end of the season Chip Ganssi Racing and Dixon will be celebrating another championship win.
Dixon heads to Watkins Glen this weekend just 31 points behind series leader Josef Newgarden with a 150 points still available from the final two races of the season excluding bonus points.
