Verizon IndyCar Series president of competition and operations Jay Frye has told Paddock Eye that the drivers in the series were heavily involved in the development of the 2018 universal aero-kit.

Speaking to Paddock Eye during a teleconference about the new kit, Frye said that the series worked closely with Dr Terry Trammell from the IndyCar medical team when it came to working on the overall safety aspect of the new aero-kit.

Frye said that the side pods have been reinforced for the new kits and that it would have helped when Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe had his accident in 2015.
