The Verizon IndyCar Series may be on a break until the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway which takes place on August 21 however the teams and drivers have had plenty of on track action.
A number of teams were in action at Pocono Raceway on Thursday in preparation for the next race.
This weekend, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal was in Seattle cheering on his wife Courtney who is a driver in the NHRA championship. Next stop for Rahal is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where he will test his No.15 Steak N’ Shake Honda. Rahal tweeted:
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan who drives the No.10 NTT DATA Chevrolet had hoped to return home to Brazil for a few days to take in some of the 2016 Olympic Games action however due to a busy schedule of testing with the Verizon IndyCar Series he was unable to travel.
The Verizon IndyCar Series is set to be extremely busy over the coming weeks with the ABC Supply Co 500, the rescheduled Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway and the Indy Grand Prix at The Glen all within the space of three weeks.
Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud leads the series points standings by 58 points following his fourth win the year last time out at Mid-Ohio.
However there is an awful lot to play for and with Team Penske’s Will Power having had an extremely strong mid-season the championship is far from over and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden continues to impress having moving up one place in the series standings to fourth place having overtaken reigning series champion Scott Dixon.
