Ed Carpenter Racing team owner/driver Ed Carpenter returns to the cockpit of the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for the first time since the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway. It is the first of a double header for Carpenter as he will also compete at Texas Motor Speedway in the rescheduled Firestone 600.
In Pocono last season Josef Newgarden who goes into this weekend’s race in fourth place in series standings finished the race on the podium in second place.
Newgarden has a great record on oval circuits this season, in Iowa last month Newgarden secured a dominant victory while at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in May, Newgarden started the race from second place and finished on the podium in third behind race winner Alexander Rossi and Carlos Munoz.
Speaking ahead of the race this weekend, Newgarden commented by saying:
I am super excited for Pocono! It’s one of the trickiest places we go, “The Tricky Triangle” is such a fitting name! I think we’ll have a great car. We had a really good test with both of the Fuzzy’s Vodka cars. We should have a good opportunity to challenge for the win as we close out our oval program this year. I am eager to see how we do!
Carpenter commented on this weekend’s race by saying:
I am very excited to get back to Pocono! We had a very good test there a few weeks ago, so I am encouraged about our race cars and the type of results that we can get. We are into the home stretch of the season, so time is running out to make the most of our opportunities. I feel good about our chances of putting two Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolets on the podium this weekend.
