Ed Carpenter Racing head into this weekend’s Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio sports car course hoping to regain their Iowa form.
At the Honda Indy Toronto two weeks ago, Josef Newgarden who went into the race in second place in the Verizon IndyCar Series standings started the race from eighth place but retired from the race following contact with the wall on lap 57 and has now moved back to fifth place in the standings with four races to go.
Newgarden will compete in Mid-Ohio, Pocono, Watkins Glen and the season finale in Sonoma but will miss the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway as the American retired from the abandoned race following a heavy crash which saw the American fracture his wrist and his clavicle.
After carrying Preferred Freezer Services as primary sponsor on the No.21 Chevrolet for the Honda Indy Toronto, Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka are back as the primary sponsor for Newgarden along with Pigot’s car. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race Newgarden commented by saying:
I can’t wait to get back to Mid-Ohio. It’s a great road course track, one of the best we have in North America. I’m excited to get back in the car and see what we can do points wise. We’ve had good cars around Mid-Ohio the past couple of years, it’s a really good shot for the team to get a win there. I feel confident that we’ll have a good effort with the whole Fuzzy’s Vodka crew and we should be able to move up the board a little bit after the weekend and see where we’re at in the points heading into Pocono! I’m ready to get back in the car after a weekend off.
Spencer Pigot goes into this weekend’s race having finished the Honda Indy Toronto in 19th place having started the race from 21st place. The American has a good record at Mid-Ohio having finished the race on the podium in third place in the Indy Lights Series in 2015 and speaking ahead of the race Pigot commented by saying:
I’m very excited for the race this weekend at Mid-Ohio, we had a productive test last week. It felt like the car is made for tracks like this, it was amazing to feel the cornering speeds the car is capable of. I think we will be able to build on what we learned and hopefully turn it into a strong weekend for the Fuzzy’s Vodka/Rising Star Racing car.
