Ed Carpenter Racing drivers JR Hildebrand and Spencer Pigot were at the Sonoma Raceway in California on Wednesday conducting a private test ahead of the start of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg in 23 days time.
Hildebrand returns to full-time Verizon IndyCar Series action in 2017 replacing Josef Newgarden in the No.21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet. The American who tested at the open Verizon IndyCar Series test at Phoenix International Raceway commented on the test in Sonoma by saying:
It feels great to be here. I grew up racing here, grew up watching races here and went through the whole system; pretty much everything I’ve ever raced, I’ve raced here at some point. “This is our first road course test of the season, so it’s a nice familiar place for us to be doing that, and it’s one of the most difficult tracks on our schedule so it’s a great place for us to be collecting a bit of data.
Spencer Pigot returns to Ed Carpenter Racing in 2017, sharing the No.20 Chevrolet with the the only owner/driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series, Ed Carpenter.
Pigot will drive all of the road and street circuit events this season starting with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg while Ed Carpenter will drive in the No.20 in all of the oval races this season including the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil which takes place on May 28.
Speaking following the test, Pigot, who drove in three races with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2016 before moving to Ed Carpenter Racing commented by saying:
It’s been a while since we were here and it’s been since September since I drove the car, so I’m excited to be back in an Indy car and so far, so good. “We had a really productive morning, and we’ve been sticking to our test plan, which we spent a lot of time going over before we got here in order to maximize our day.
