Ed Carpenter Racing have confirmed that the will field just one car at the Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg this weekend.
Josef Newgarden will drive the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for the race weekend while team owner Ed Carpenter will drive the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for the five oval events in 2016.
Speaking ahead of the opening race of the 2016 season, Josef Newgarden who enters this year off the back of his strongest IndyCar season in 2015 commented by saying:
I can’t wait to get down to St. Pete and kick things off. It’s been a fun offseason getting to work with the Ed Carpenter Racing group, but you can’t really simulate a real race weekend. It will be nice to see how well our homework has paid off over the offseason and hopefully we’re in a good place to start. I’ve got a lot of faith in our entire Fuzzy’s Vodka crew and we’re looking to start the year with a strong result!
Newgarden will be hoping to add to his victory from last season when he led home a CFH Racing 1-2 finish on the streets of Toronto. Although Sarah Fisher is no longer a co owner in the team she remains as a sponsor of the outfit. Newgarden also picked up his maiden pole position last year at the Milwaukee Mile while collecting two addition podiums including his victory in Canada.
