The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team announced on Tuesday that Marcus Ericsson has been named reserve driver and brand ambassador for the Swiss based outfit from 2019 onwards.

Speaking about the news, Ericsson commented by saying:

“I’m thankful for the years spent in Formula One as a racing driver. I am proud to have represented Sauber over the past four years and this season also such an iconic brand as Alfa Romeo. I would have loved to continue racing but to have a driver as Kimi Räikkönen on board is a great opportunity for the team. I will continue to give my contribution to the team as I have always done with dedication and support.”

Alfa Romeo F1 Tean CEO and Team Principal Fredric Vassuer commented by saying:

We would like to thank Marcus for the dedication to the team and the great job he has done over the past four years with us. We are pleased that he will continue to be a part of the Sauber family going forward. In 2018, the team has made important progress and Marcus has been an essential factor in our development. He has a long history with our team and we look forward to our new shared chapter, in which we will strive to continue collaborating in a positive direction together.
