Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson in the No.28 Bryant Honda was fastest in the second practice session ahead of qualifying for Sunday’s opening race of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg presented by RP Funding. The Swede set a fastest time of 01:00.5151s, ending the session just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay.
Alex Palou in the No.10 DHL Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing was third fastest making it a Honda 1,2,3 while Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel was the fastest Chevrolet in fourth place.
Conor Daly had an impressive morning in the No.76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet as he was fifth fastest with a time of 01:00.7149s ending the session just ahead of Christian Lundgaard and Sting Ray Robb in the second Juncos car in seventh place. Pato O’Ward was eighth for Arrow McLaren just ahead of Kyle Kirkwood while AJ Foyt Racing’s David Malukas had a solid session ending the morning by rounding out the top ten with a 01:00.8747s.
Marcus Armstrong was 11th for Meyer Shank Racing just ahead of Graham Rahal and Felix Rosenqvist in the second MSR car. Josef Newgarden was the leading Penske driver in 14th place just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Devlin DeFrancesco.
Santino Ferrucci was 16th just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda. Scott McLaughlin was 18th after Team Penske worked overnight to get his car fixed following his accident on Friday while Ed Carpenter Racing’s Alexander Rossi was 19th just ahead of Colton Herta and RLL’s Louis Foster. Kyffin Simpson was 22nd just ahead of Callum Ilott and Will Power who had a hybrid issue while Christian Rasmussen was 25th just ahead of Jacob Abel and Robert Schwartman who had electrical issues in his PREMA.
