Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team Principal Frédéric Vassuer has confirmed that Marcus Ericsson will continue his test and reserve driver role with the Hinwil based outfit in 2019 alongside his IndyCar commitments.

It was announced last week that Marcus Ericsson will join James Hinchcliffe at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for the 2019 IndyCar Series season.

The IndyCar and Formula One schedules will overlap on several occasions next season meaning that Ericsson will miss a number of Grand Prix.

The Swede will make his Indianapolis 500 debut next season in the No.7 Honda. Vassuer has confirmed that Sauber are looking into getting a second reserve driver alongside Ericsson but has confirmed that Pascal Wehrlein is not an option for next season.

It remains to be seen when Ericsson will get his first opportunity to test for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

The 2019 IndyCar Series season finishes in September meaning that Ericsson will be available for the final six races of the 2019 Formula One season.
