Extreme E, the all-electric SUV racing series which launches this weekend in Saudi Arabia made its official on-track debut on Friday as the teams got to grips with the desert terrain that they will face throughout this weekend’s event.

For some drivers, like Segi Chip Ganassi Racing’s Sara Price who is used to this sort of terrain it is easier to adapt compared to someone like 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button who comes into Extreme E with his own team but has never competed in an off-road championship.

Speaking during Friday’s media session, Button said that the Odyssey 21 machine is tricky to handle particularly as the Continental tires that are used by Extreme E is one tire compound created for all of the different surfaces that the series will tackle this year.
