The appointment of Robert Fernley to McLaren Racing’s IndyCar programme just shows how serious the Woking based outfit are about the series.
At the moment, McLaren just have plans to run the 2019 Indianapolis 500 next May however anything is possible after the month of May.
McLaren could do what Harding Racing in 2017 when they did a partial schedule before entering the series full time in 2018.
McLaren have plenty of drivers to choose from if this is something they want to do.
Conor Daly, Stefano Wilson and Gabby Chaves are just a few drivers who could be available if the team decide to do a partial programme next year.
Fernando Alonso has already hinted that he could do more in IndyCar in 2019 along with the Indianapolis 500.
