Scuderia Ferrari have admitted to being surprised that they have been mentioned in a legal action being taken by Formula One rivals Mercedes against an employee at Mercedes High Performance Powertrains as they have confirmed that they never offered an employment contract to the employee in question, Benjamin Hoyle.

A Ferrari spokesperson confirmed to Autosport that:

Ferrari has stressed the point Benjamin Hoyle never had a contract with the company, so he will not be joining us in the foreseeable future.

It is understood that any contact Hoyle has had with the Italian team was purely informal with no contract on offer.
