Scuderia Ferrari’s potential move into the NTT IndyCar Series in 2022 is a win win for all parties involved. Managing Director of Sports Management and Team Principal of the Prancing Horse Mattia Binotto confirmed on Thursday that the Italian manufacturer have set up a exploratory IndyCar committee to see whether or not it is viable for such a project.
A move into the premier American open wheel series would be present Ferrari with a fantastic opportunity given that the United States is their biggest market and to have a presence in the NTT IndyCar Series would be beneficial.
As for what it could do for the NTT IndyCar Series it could attract new commercial partners to the sport and open up the sport to an even wider fanbase.
The new hybrid technology being introduced by IndyCar in 2022 will store energy under braking which is something that Ferrari have been working with for many years in Formula One. Ferrari entering the series would also mean greater competition which would be fantastic for the fans but also would produce teams with a potential choice of chassis as Paddock Eye understands that the Prancing Horse are not evaluating an engine deal with IndyCar but also the possibility of designing an IndyCar chassis.
At this moment in time there has been public comment from IndyCar about Ferrari’s expression of interest in coming into the series as it is currently in the early stages of investigating such a move so we will have to wait and see however it would be fantastic to have Ferrari competing in the Indianapolis 500 in some form in the near future.
