Dale Coyne Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.19 Cly Del Manufacturing Honda led the opening practice session at World Wide Technology Raceway ahead of tomorrow’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500.
Ferrucci set a fastest speed of 184.804MPH and led fellow rookie Marcus Ericsson in the No.7 Arrow Electronics Honda for Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
Defending series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing was third with a speed of 184.433MPH.
Series points leader Josef Newgarden in the No.2 PPG Chevrolet was fourth fastest for Team Penske.
Dale Coyne with Vasser Sullivan Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais was fifth in the No.18 Team SealMaster Honda just ahead of Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda for Andretti Autosport.
Pocono race winner Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet was seventh just ahead of Takuma Sato and Ryan Hunter Reay while Colton Herta in the No.88 Capstone Turbines Honda for Harding Steinbrenner Racing rounded out the top ten.
Felix Rosenqvist in the No.10 Monster Energy Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing was 11th just ahead of Zach Veach in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda.
Conor Daly was running up front for a lot of the session and ended the morning in 13th place in the No.59 Gallagher Chevrolet for Carlin Racing.
Indianapolis 500 winner Simon Pagenaud was 14th just ahead of Spencer Pigot and Graham Rahal.
AJ Foyt Racing’s Mathues Matt Leist and Tony Kanaan were 17th and 18th respectively just ahead of Charlie Kimball in the No.23 ripKurrent Chevrolet for Carlin and team owner driver Ed Carpenter.
Marco Andretti and James Hinchcliffe rounded out the order.
