AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.41 Pray.com Chevrolet says that the new hybrid system introduced in INDYCAR later this season will be safer for the AMR Safety Team when they respond to incidents on track.
Speaking to Paddock Eye during a hybrid test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, Ferrucci said that while he hadn’t tried starting the car from the steering wheel, which is a new feature of the hybrid system, where the driver can start the car themselves, he did try reserving the car.
Ferrucci said that it means that the AMR Safety team won’t have to go over the wall as much, making it safer for those crews trackside. For the drivers, the sessions will go faster as there won’t be as many red flags.
Ferrucci praised the work that both Chevrolet and Honda Racing Corporation have done to implement the technology and believes that both manufacturers have done a phenomenal job.
