Firestone Racing have confirmed that they will bring more than 1,300 tires to this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 as the Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Gateway Motorsports Park for the first time since 2003.
Each entrant will receive 13 sets of tires for the weekend. The tires are the same as what were used for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix earlier this season.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race, Chief Engineer with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports, Cara Adams commented by saying:
Firestone engineers developed the tires for Gateway Motorsports Park based on learnings during our October tire test at the 1.25-mile short oval. “The tires are the same specification as Phoenix, which is a short oval left side tire paired with a superspeedway right side construction and short oval tread compound. The right front tire can experience loads that are equivalent to a Chevrolet Cruze or Honda Civic.
