The Verizon IndyCar Series were at Sonoma Raceway on Thursday testing ahead of next weekend’s season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Firestone brought the compound that they used at Barber Motorsports Park and also a Sonoma specific tire for the test. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan who drives the No.10 NTT DATA Chevrolet said there was big difference driving on the Sonoma track compared to Watkins Glen where the raced last weekend.
Kanaan said that there was a lot less grip on the track this morning having come from The Glen where track had been repaved ahead of the race.
The team’s will be back at Sonoma next weekend where the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series champion will be crowned. Due to the nature of the circuit tire management could play a key role in the race as well as race strategy throughout the race.
