The construction of the Alternate tire is the same as the 2017 SC tire on both the left and right front and is the same on both the left and right rear but has a new compound which has improved grip.
The construction of the Rain tire is the same as is the compound from the 2016-2017 SC**.
Speaking ahead of the race this weekend, Cara Adams, the chief engineer for Bridgestone Americas Motorsports commented by saying:
For the Honda Indy Toronto, Firestone engineers have selected the primary tire (black sidewall) and rain tire (grey sidewall) that are used at all street course circuits in 2017. “We are introducing a new alternate tire compound (red sidewall; construction is the same as the other street circuits), which will provide theVerizon IndyCar Series drivers more grip and allow for a slightly larger gap in lap times between the primary and alternate tires.
