Cara Krstolic, Director of Race Tire Engineering and Manufacturing
“The 2025 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 race tires essentially have the same construction and compounds as last year given that the 2024 Indy 500 tires were designed with the hybrid engine in mind. The feedback from teams on last year’s tire performance was positive, and while there may be some slight variances to the compounds this year, the open test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in April did not show any change in performance.
We are also proud to once again provide Indy 500 tires that include butadiene and bio-styrene monomers derived from the waste residue of palm oil processing.* It’s the third straight year we’ve worked to replace some petroleum-based monomers in these tires with more sustainably-sourced alternatives.
Using racing as a mobile laboratory, we will continue to explore ways we can prove and advance sustainable innovation in the most extreme performance conditions. As we push to redefine our limits in racing, these breakthroughs will drive product innovation in the tires that support the demands of everyday drivers. By embracing this challenge, we can help build a more sustainable future for mobility and for the sport we love.”
