Firestone Racing will bring more than 900 tires to Phoenix for this weekend’s Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix at ISM Raceway, the opening oval race of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Each of the 23 entries this weekend will receive ten sets of tires for this weekend’s race under lights. Firestone will celebrate their 500th winner since returning to the Verizon IndyCar Series as official tire supplier. Firestone’s first Verizon IndyCar Series win when they retired to IndyCar came at the hands of Scott Pruett who won the 1995 Marlboro 500 at Michigan International Raceway.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix, Chief engineer with Firestone Racing, Cara Adams commented by saying:
With a significant reduction in downforce for the new aero kit’s short oval package, our Race Engineering team was tasked with the development of a tire with increased mechanical grip. “Our team tested various constructions and compounds on the new car during the 2017 postseason. We developed a new, softer right side construction and we will also bring a new left side compound. This combination gives drivers more grip in the low downforce configuration.
