Firestone Racing head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis with more than 1,500 tires.
Each entrant in the Verizon IndyCar Series will receive:
7* sets of the black PRIMARY tire.
4 sets of the red ALTERNATE tire.
5 sets of the grey RAIN tire.
- After practice session 1, each entrant must return one set of primary or alternate compound tires, and after practice session 2, each entrant must return one set of tires of the opposite compound returned in the first session.
Speaking ahead of the race this weekend, Cara Adams, Chief Engineer with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports commented by saying:
Firestone Racing is excited to return to Indianapolis, our home away from home, for the month of May. “The Race Tire Development group travels from Akron, OH, for the INDYCAR Grand Prix and then shifts focus to the most famous race in motorsports, the Indianapolis 500. First things first, the Indianapolis Road Course is a 2.439 mile, 13-turn circuit that uses some of the same track as the Speedway. Our team has selected the race-proven compound Firestone primary tire with a newly updated front construction similar to what was used at Barber Motorsports Park to reduce oversteer in highspeed corners. We are introducing a new Firestone alternate compound for this year’s race, which is similar grip, but more heat resistant to meet the demands of the ever evolving Indy cars on this already fast race course.
