Firestone Racing are bringing the same tire compound and construction for th Primary and Alternate tire as last season for this weekend’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix.

Cory Williams, Principal Program Engineer, on INDYCAR tires:

The Firestone Firehawk primary tire and alternate (red sidewall) tires for this year’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix have the same construction as those provided for the 2024 race at Barber Motorsports Park. However, we’ve developed a new compound for the primary tire to provide increased durability and a decrease in grip as compared to last year.

The construction of the red-sidewall alternate tire is the same as the primary tire. While the compound on the alternate tire remains unchanged from last year, with the addition of the hybrid engine it is expected to show more degradation with similar, near to equivalent grip level.

These changes are intended to provide a wider drop-off gap between the harder primary tire and the softer alternate tire than what we saw in last year’s race.

In the event rain tires are needed at Barber, they have the same construction, compound and tread pattern as 2024 wet tires.”
