Firestone Racing have confirmed that they signed a multi-year contract extension with the Verizon IndyCar Series. The partnership dates back to 1911 when Ray Harroun used Firestone tires at the Indianapolis 500.

Speaking about the contract extension, Lisa Boggs, Director of Motorsports for Bridgestone Americas commented by saying:

For more than a century, the Firestone brand has utilized racing as the ideal stage to showcase the trusted dependability of our tires. “This partnership is integral to our marketing initiatives as it allows us to engage with fans via the unique, multi-faceted platform that the Verizon IndyCar Series provides, and we look forward to building upon the brand’s time-tested racing legacy.

As part of the new agreement from 2017, following discussions between the Verizon IndyCar Series, teams and Firestone the tire allocation for each race has been increased for Friday practice allowing for an increase in on track activity.

Speaking about the new agreement, Jay Frye, Verizon IndyCar Series president of competition and operations commented by saying:
