Firestone Racing is bringing more than 900 race tires to World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend for Saturday’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline. This weekend’s schedule is unique as it is a one-day show with practice, qualifying, and the race all taking place on one day.
The race itself consists of 260 laps of the 1.25-mile oval with each of the 24 NTT IndyCar Series drivers receiving 9 sets of the Firestone Firehawk tire for the final oval race of the season.
The left and right side construction are the same that was used here in 2020 while the compound is slightly different as it has more grip on both left and right compared to last season.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s track action, Cara Adams, Director of Race Tire Engineering and Production with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports said:
The stagger at World Wide Technology Raceway is unique because it has two different turns at two different levels of banking – There’s a short turn banked at 11-degrees and a big turn at 9-degrees. We specifically tailor our Firestone Firehawk race tire compounds to manage the two different corners and levels of banking, while also providing a tire that lets drivers do most passing on a short oval track. For this weekend, we are bringing the same right-side construction used in 2020 with a slightly reduced gauge and a compound that has more grip and faster wear. The left side construction is the same as last year with a new compound that has similarities in grip and wear to the 2020 right side compound.
