Firestone, the official tire of the Verizon IndyCar Series has been involved in the sport for many many years and this weekend they return to Watkins Glen for the first time since 2010.
Firestone conducted a successful and extremely valuable test at the Glen ahead of this weekend’s race and have chosen the perfect race tire for the new track surface. The Firestone Fire hawk race tire thread is as thick as three credit cards stacked together which can withstand the force of a Verizon IndyCar Series race car travelling at over 200mph.
Speaking to Paddock Eye last week about the race at Watkins Glen, Cara Adams from Firestone said:
We had some really fantastic feedback from some of the drivers on Watkins Glen, they really liked the compound construction we brought. With the track being entirely repaved it has very good amount of grip so we went to the test prepared with compounds and constructions for this increased amount of grip, so we are happy with the race tyre we’ve selected, so we’re excited for next week.
