The NTT IndyCar Series has been ahead of the curve when it comes to diversity and women competing on a level playing field to men and beating them however, it is not just the teams who have been a driving force behind this success.

Today, Monday 08 March, is International Women’s Day, however, it should not take just one day to recognize the important role that women play in getting the cars on track.

Firestone Racing, the sole tire supplier to the NTT IndyCar Series is a prime example of women succeeding because they are talented at what they do and gender does not come into it.

Lisa Boggs is Director of Motorsports at Bridgestone while Cara Adams is Director of Race Tire Production and Chief Engineer with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports Firestone Racing. Adams, who was appointed to the role of Chief Engineer in 2016 has played an instrumental role in Firestone Racing’s continued success in the NTT IndyCar Series.

The Firestone brand has gone from strength to strength under Lisa Boggs’ leadership with Firestone Racing expanding their involvement in the NTT IndyCar Series beyond being just the sole tire supplier.

Firestone is also the primary sponsor to two races on the NTT IndyCar Series schedule, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg and the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and that is down to the work that Lisa and her team at Firestone Racing have done to branch out from the racing side of things.

Cara Adams and Lisa Boggs have also played an instrumental role in promoting the development of female involvement in motorsport from an engineering point of view with them participating in STEM talks.

Speaking to Paddock Eye in January, following the announcement that her team, Paretta Autosport will compete in the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge in May, Beth Paretta said that one of the first calls she received following the news was from Lisa Boggs to say she heard that the team would be looking for tires.

Cara Adams spoke to us here at Paddock Eye last month and said that ideally, Firestone would like to provide Paretta Autosport with a female tire engineer for the Month of May including the Indianapolis 500.

Happy International Women’s Day!
