The 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season gets underway this weekend with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
The 2018 season sees the dawn of a new era in Verizon IndyCar Series with the introduction of the new universal aero kit. Firestone Racing are bringing more than 1,500 sets of tires to the season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
Each driver will receive:
- Seven sets of the black PRIMARY tire
- Four sets of the red ALTERNATE tire
- Five sets of the grey RAIN tire.
Bridgestone Americas Motorsports Chief Engineer, Cara Adams commented on the start of the new season by saying:
The tire development for the new aero kit was a big off-season project for our Race Product Engineering team as we worked on developing more than 60 race tire specifications to meet the unique demands of the 2018 car. “For St. Pete, the primary tire compound is the same one used at all street courses last season, and the alternate tire compound is the same as 2017 St. Pete, Long Beach and Detroit tires
