Sahara Force India Formula One Deputy Team Principal Robert Fernley has confirmed that the the Silverstone based outfit were caught off guard when Nico Hulkenberg joined the Renault Sport F1 Team for next season.
Fernley confirmed that this is why Dr Vijay Mallya commented on Hulkenberg’s exit. Fernley confirmed that the team can’t stop a driver leaving if they don’t want to stay with an outfit.
In relation to who will replace Hulkenberg, Fernley said that the team will wait to confirm who will replace the German as Sergio Perez’s team mate in 2017. Force India head to the United States Grand Prix this weekend in fourth place in the Constructors championship.
It is not yet known who will join Hulkenberg as his team mate at the Renault Sport F1 Team.
