AJ Foyt Racing Team President Larry Foyt says that he is really proud of the team after their fantastic BitNile.com Grand Prix of Portland weekend.
Santino Ferrucci in the No.14 Phoenix Investors Chevrolet took his maiden NTT P1 Award and finished Sunday’s race in eighth place to jump into the top ten in the championship order with just three races remaining this season.
Speaking following the race, Larry Foyt said:
It’s tough because Santino was so happy with the car yesterday, we didn’t want to gamble on making a big adjustment overnight. “We debated and decided to stick with the package we knew. Obviously, hindsight is always 20-20 but I’m still really proud of this team. I regret that the slower pace made it look like our stops were lacking but that was certainly not the case today–the guys did a great job in the pits.”
AJ Foyt Racing has seen a drastic resurgence in their performances over the past 18 months.
It all started with Santino Ferrucci’s podium finish at the 2023 Indianapolis 500 where he came home in third place.
Of the 14 points paying races in 2024, Ferrucci and the No.14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet team has amassed eight top ten finishes including in Sunday’s Portland Grand Prix.
The consistency shown by the team is not just based on their technical alliance with Team Penske but they also had continuity this season within their engineering department, with Mike Cannon leading the technical side of the team.
Sting Ray Robb has also shown glimpses of pace and at World Wide Technology Raceway two weeks ago he scored his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES top ten finish.
The team will be hoping that both Santino Ferrucci and Sting Ray Robb can close out the season with strong results which will give them a platform to build on for 2025.
The team announced recently that David Malukas has signed a multi-year contract to race for them from 2025 onwards.
