The Verizon IndyCar Series is one of the most unique forms of motor racing in the world, not just because drivers race on ovals at over 230mph but also the genuine friendships among the drivers and just team mates.
Last weekend following the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio was a perfect example as Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Helio Castroneves, Conor Daly, James Hinchcliffe, Tony Kanaan and Will Power competed in Celebrity Family Feud against Sports Illustrated swim suit models. The IndyCar team won.
But, what was fantastic to see was the genuine friendship’s among the five drivers. However it is not just away from the track that there is evidence of friendships. When James Hinchcliffe returned to the Verizon IndyCar Series this season everyone was delighted to see him back in the series because he is one of the nicest drivers on the grid.
Speaking to Chip Ganassi Racing’s Charlie Kimball a couple of weeks ago I asked him who among the drivers are his friends and he said that that the team at Ganassi, Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Max Chilton are like his attended family.
We also spoke about the Mayor of HinchTown too as he married Charlie and his wife Kathleen in 2014 as Hinch.
Will Power and his Penske team mate Simon Pagenaud have a very close relationship too with Power playing a key role in Pagenaud joining Penske at the start of last season. Conor Daly and James Hinchcliffe are very good friends off track as Daly actually lives with Hinch in Indiana.
