Andretti Autosport announced on Thursday that their Formula E driver Robin Frijns drive one of their Verizon IndyCar machines at an Andretti Autosport test at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar course on Thursday 21 July.
Team owner Michael Andretti commented on the on announcement by saying:
We have found Robin to be very impressive in his career so far, both in Andretti Formula E and his other areas of racing, One of the perks of the team competing across various racing platforms is the ability to expose our drivers to different racing disciplines. Having versatile drivers gives us a security of depth in our driver line up and makes us more competitive on all fronts.
Frijns was a test driver in Formula One from 2012 – 2014 with the Sauber F1 Team, Red Bull Racing and the Caterham F1 Team. Speaking about his opportunity to test an IndyCar the Dutchman commented by saying:
I am really honored to get the opportunity from Andretti to test on of their Indy cars at Mid-Ohio, I have been working with the Andretti Formula E Team for a year now in the MS Amlin Andretti car, and it has been a great year for us. I am really looking forward to working with one of the biggest teams of the Verizon IndyCar Series and excited for this new challenge.
Frijns is attending the Honda Indy Toronto this weekend with Andretti Autosport to see how the IndyCar organisation operates while at the track.
