Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe had a difficult end to a frustrating race weekend at the IndyCar Grand Prix at Watkins Glen presented by Hitachi.
The Mayor of HinchTown started the race from 13th place on the grid and had made his way up to second place by the end of the race going long on his fuel strategy which unfortunately did not work out for him as he ran out of fuel and ended the race in 18th place one lap down.
Unfortunately he came to stop with just a few turns to go. Hinch also lost radio communication on the final lap.
Speaking following the race, he commented by saying:
It was a frustrating end to a frustrating weekend,” said Hinchcliffe. “I was meeting fuel numbers during the last stint and I could easily have saved more at the end, but I lost the radio on the last lap. I was just cruising because I didn’t know if I needed to save more or not. Either way, I have to give credit to the No. 5 Arrow Electronics crew because the pit stops were on point today and they did what they needed to do. The car had the speed all weekend and hopefully we’ll be able to carry that over to Sonoma.
