NTT IndyCar Series team owner Roger Penske says that the full time teams and drivers competing in the series should be guaranteed spots on the grid for the Indianapolis 500.

Penske’s comments come after Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda missed last year’s 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 after failing to qualify for the double points race.

Bump Day will return for this year’s Indianapolis 500 with at least 35 drivers hoping to qualify for just 33 places in the grid.

Both Penske and team president Tim Cindric say that what happened with James Hinchcliffe and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports last year should never happen again.

The 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge takes place on May 26.
