Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed on Tuesday that GE LED Lighting will act as primary sponsor for Scott Dixon’s No.9 Honda at this weekend’s 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
Chip Ganassi Racing also confirmed that Tony Kanaan’s primary sponsor NTT DATA will expand their partnership becoming an associate sponsor to the No.9 Honda this weekend.
GE have a long history with Chip Ganassi Racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series having acted as primary sponsor for Dario Franchitti at Mid-Ohio in 2012 and 2013, for Tony Kanaan at Barber 2014, and Phoenix 2016 and for Sage Karam at St Petersburg in 2015.
Scott Dixon, the four time Verizon IndyCar Series champion returns to the No.9 for Ganassi in 2017, his 16th consecutive season with the team, the longest tenure of any driver in the teams history (1990-present). Speaking about the partnership with GE and NTT DATA, Dixon commented by saying:
I can’t wait to get back to St. Petersburg and get this season going. We’ve had some big changes over the offseason including a manufacturer move to Honda, and I know our team is up for the challenge. GE has a long history with Ganassi over the years, and they are a partner that truly incorporates their technology into our race teams – you see it every time you walk into the race shops the crews work in. Having them on board for the No. 9 car with NTT DATA should make for a great combination to start off the year.
Daraius Patell, North America Consumer Lighting GM commented on the partnership by saying:
With more than a century of engineering game-changing lighting products, we can appreciate the science and physics that go into each Indy car race. That’s why we’re proud to represent Scott and Chip Ganassi Racing, and our team at GE Lighting will be cheering for a win in the season opener in St. Petersburg.
Chip Ganassi Racing team managing director Steve Lauletta commented by saying:
“I want to first thank GE for being such a great partner for the team over the years. We’re proud to have enjoyed a long relationship with them– and in sports those are very hard to come by. We’ve partnered together in the past with paint scheme races in St. Petersburg, but this will be the first time Scott will carry the livery for us on the 9 car.
The opening race of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg takes place on Sunday with the first practice session getting underway on Friday morning.
