Group Renault Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn has revealed that he would love to Fernando Alonso return to the new look Renault F1 Team in the future but admits that the decision rests with the F1 operation and not with him.
Renault return to Formula One as a works team in 2016 and have announced that Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen will race for the outfit this season.
The Enstone squad have also confirmed a partnership with former Red Bull Racing sponsor Infiniti who are part of the Nissan group who are in partnership with Renault on a number of projects.
Alonso who returned to McLaren last season won back to back championships with the Renault F1 Team in 2005-2006 during their last spell as a works outfit.
Renault will be one of three works teams in 2016 along with Mercedes and Ferrari. Group Renault have drastically increased their Formula One budget and have approved a major upgrade of the F1 team’s Enstone HQ.
Renault are hopeful that Palmer and Magnussen will be in a position to achieve some strong results in year one but that they are not expecting major results in 2016 but will of course be looking to be competitive as they have stated that they are not just in Formula One to make up the numbers.
