Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing’s Romain Grosjean enjoyed another great race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. Following on from his pole position and second-place finish here at the GMR Grand Prix in May, Grosjean started the race from third place and challenged Will Power for the win coming home in second place having run out of push to pass towards the end of the race.
Speaking following the race the Frenchman who has been strongly linked to a full-time IndyCar drive with Andretti Autosport replacing Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda commented saying:
It’s been a cool weekend. We’ve been very competitive the last few races. We had a good car all day long. We fought at the front and I’m happy with second, but obviously we’d like to be first,” expressed Grosjean. “We ran out of push to pass early in the race. I had to use quite a bit to get around some cars that were a lap down. At the end the cars around me all had more than I did so when the restart happened, I just knew I had to go flat out and try not to make any mistakes. I knew I was quite good in the last corner, and that we were able to get a good run down the straight and we were able to get a good run into Turn 1 and that worked out really well for us.
Speaking to Paddock Eye following the race Grosjean spoke about his oval race debut next weekend saying:
Well, as I say, it’s very different, and it’s been different. It’s going to be a different type of racing. Coming here we knew we kind of had our favorite bibs to defend, just because we had the pole last time out, and we were probably the fastest if it wasn’t for the blue flags traffic.
We came here straight from FP1 and realized that the track was very different. The curbs were a bit different, it was a bit different, so we had to do some work and not just the setup, but next week is a brand new thing, so let’s see where it goes.
Grosjean went on to say:
I’m excited and also I think you need to respect ovals like street courses. There is not much room for mistake, and that’s something you need to keep in mind rather than just trying to go balls out straight away
