A clearly furious Romain Grosjean says this is not what he signed up for in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES after the Frenchman was hit from behind by six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon who was penalized with a drive-through penalty during heat one which meant he failed to progress into the $1 million dollar Challenge at the Thermal Club.

Immediately following the accident, Grosjean was seen shouting at the AMR Safety Team who came to assist him following the accident. Speaking following the race, Grosjean said:

“I got hit on the braking. I haven’t seen the footage, but I got hit really, really badly in the back and then the car spun. It’s… It’s… Who’s going to pay for the damage? We come here with no points on the line, we do nothing wrong, and the car is completely smashed. What is that? It’s not what I signed in INDYCAR for.”

In Heat 1, Agustin Canapino came home in fifth place and finished the $1 million Thermal Challenge in 10th place and speaking following the action he said:

“It was a good finish in P10. Really, really happy with the progress with this weekend. Honestly, we are improving a lot and we are still in the battle, the top-10. It was our first top-10 in INDYCAR. I am really happy, of course. Unfortunately, from the main race, our car has a big vibration for some reason. I’m not sure what happened there. But anyway, we finished in the battle in the top-10. Thanks to the whole team, and we’ll focus on Long Beach.”

Team co-owner Ricardo Juncos commented saying:

“We finished the Thermal Race, crazy race. Unfortuneally, Romain Grosjean was hit by behind, so we didn’t finish. Canapino was top 10 on the end. Drivers and team did a great job this weekend. Tricky but we get a lot of practice and a lot of things for the future and we are looking foward to the next race in Long Beach”.
