Firestone Racing has confirmed that the Guayule green walled Firehawk tire will make its Toronto debut this weekend for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES only trio out of North America this season.
The compound and construction of the tire is same that is being used on other street courses this season.
Each of the 27 entrants this weekend will receive:
Primary (black): 6 sets per entry*
Alternate (guayule green sidewall): 4 sets per entry
Rain (gray): 5 sets per entry
*Rookies will receive an extra set
Speaking about this weekend’s race on the streets of Toronto,
Cara Krstolic, Director Race Tire Engineering and Manufacturing, Chief Engineer Motorsports:
Firestone has brought the same primary tire that was raced on the Exhibition Place street circuit last season, and has the new guayule alternate race tire making its first appearance at the Honda Indy Toronto. These green sidewall alternates are the same that have been used in competition at the St. Pete, Long Beach, and Detroit street circuits this season. Toronto track surfaces present a challenge due to the various surface types. Drivers will see concrete and smooth and rougher asphalt surface. The surface friction will typically improve as the track rubbers in.
