Dale Coyne Racing’s Esteban Gutierrez has confirmed that would like to stay in the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2018.
The Mexican joined the series ahead of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix and has been with the team every since. Gutierrez missed the race in Texas in June due to not having relevant oval experience however since than he has taken part in an oval test and raced at Iowa Speedway where he finished in 13th place just behind his team mate Ed Jones.
Dale Coyne Racing will have three drivers for the final two races with Sebastien Bourdais, the man Gutierrez replaced returning to the team for the IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen next month following a successful test in Mid-Ohio earlier this week.
So where will Gutierrez end up next season? The former Formula One driver brings some financial backing with Unifin and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
There is set to be a lot of movement in driver market over the off season and it is likely that Gutierrez could play a part in 2018 driver market when several key players set to be on the move which could open up a seat for Gutierrez at a different team outside of Dale Coyne Racing so we will just have to wait and see what happens next.
