World champion Lewis Hamilton lead the way in the opening practice session ahead of the final Formula One race of the year at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning. The triple world champion edged out his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg by 0.141s to claim top spot with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in third place.
Fresh from announcing that they have an engine partner for next season Red Bull had something else to smile about as Daniil Kvyat ended the morning in fourth place just ahead of the man he replaced at the Milton Keynes based outfit, Sebastian Vettel who was fifth fastest in his Ferrari.
It was a strong performance from the Sahara Force India Formula One Team in FP1 as Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in sixth place 0.997s behind Hamilton and just ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull.
Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez ended the session in eighth place in the second Force India just ahead of the Lotus F1 Team’s Pastor Maldonado while the Williams of Felipe Massa rounded out the top ten and ended the session just ahead of his team mate Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen who is looking to end a strong rookie season well this weekend ended the morning session in 12th place just ahead of McLaren Honda’s Jenson Button with his McLaren team mate Fernando Alonso in 14th place respectively.
Felipe Nasr was 15th fastest for the Sauber F1 Team just ahead of Carlos Sainz in the second Toro Rosso. Marcus Ericsson in the second Sauber was 17th fastest while new Enstone race driver for 2016 Jolyon Palmer was 18th fastest for the Lotus F1 Team.
The Manor F1 Team’s Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi rounded out the running in 19th and 20th place respectively.
