Mercedes Lewis Hamilton led the way once again in Free Practice 2 ahead of Sunday’s European Grand Prix at the Baku street circuit in Azerbaijan. The three time world champion set a fastest time of 01:44.223s and ended the session just ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg who was forced to stop on track with a problem with drive and his engine.

Sahara Force India’s Sergio Perez was third fastest for the Silverstone based outfit with a fastest time of 01:45.336s ending the session just ahead of Williams Martini Racing’s Valtteri Bottas with a 01:45.764s.

Nico Hulkenberg made it an all Mercedes powered top five as the German in his Force India set the fifth fastest time of the afternoon, a 01:45.920s ending the session just ahead of Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen was seventh fastest for Red Bull Racing setting a fastest time of 01:46.068s ending the session just ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

McLaren Honda’s Jenson Button ended the session in ninth place for the Woking based outfit setting a time of 01:46.234s. Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo rounded out the top ten with a 01:46.293s just ahead of Fernando Alonso in the second McLaren Honda while Romain Grosjean was 12th fastest for the Haas F1 Team.

Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari ended the day in 13th place with a fastest time of 01:46.694s however the Finn pulled into the escape road with around seven minutes to go jumping out of the car.

Daniil Kvyat was 14th fastest for Toro Rosso just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Esteban Gutierrez while Felipe Massa ended the session in 16th place for the Williams Martini Racing Team just ahead of Renault Sport F1’s Kevin Magnussen who set a fastest time of 01:47.329s ending up just ahead of Manor Racing’s Rio Haryanto who set a time of 01:47.487s while Marcus Ericsson was 19th fastest for the Sauber F1 Team.

Jolyon Palmer was 20th fastest for the Renault Sport F1 Team setting a time of 01:47.794s ending the day just ahead of Manor Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein. Felipe Nasr in the second Sauber rounded out the times in 22nd place setting a fastest time of 01:48.081s.

The teams will be back on track at 2PM local time for Free Practice 3 on Saturday afternoon.
