Three time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that he is not surprised by his team mate and 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg’s decision to retire from Formula One.

Hamilton, who joined Mercedes in 2013 said that he feels said that he will miss out on the opportunity to battle Rosberg for the championship in 2017 but understands the German’s decision as he wants to focus on his family life.

When asked about who he would like as his team mate next season, Hamilton said that he had no preference as to who will occupy Rosberg’s seat.

Hamilton said that he respected Rosberg’s decision to retire as he is leaving while he can and at the top of the sport. In relation to who will drive for the team next season Hamilton said:

It doesn’t matter who…I’ll race them, I’m here to race
