Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton believes that Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff’s threat to change the team’s line up in the future was not necessary.

Wolff has twice stated since the end of the 2015 season that he would have no issue with changing the Brackley based outfit’s driver line up if their rivalry began to affect the team worse than it already has.

Wolff who has overseen back to back championship wins for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton believes that the tension between his two drivers is a serious issue and has confirmed that if the pair continue their dominance of F1 into next year he will split the team in two. The pair have won 32 of the last 38 Grand Prix and Wolff believes that this has been bad for Formula One.

While Lewis Hamilton has a fresh three year contract, Nico Rosberg’s current deal expires at the end of 2016.
