Pirelli motorsport have confirmed that for this weekend’s penultimate race of the 2016 season, the Brazilian Grand Prix they have nominated the Orange walled Hard, the White walled Medium and the Yellow walled Soft compound tires.
In the build up to this weekend’s race, Red Bull Racing were in Abu Dhabi carrying out testing on behalf of Pirelli with the 2017 tire range.
The Brazilian Grand Prix often throws up crazy weather and this year could do the same. The battle for the championship is extremely tight between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton with Rosberg holding a 19 point advantage over Hamilton with just 50 points available.
Rosberg can win the championship this weekend if he wins the race. Speaking ahead of the race this weekend, Paul Hembery, Pirelli’s Director of Motorsport commented by saying:
We’re seeing the hard tyres in Brazil for the first time since 2013, which should prove to be very effective against the high-energy demands of the track. In 2015 we had a three-stop race, so with the increase in performance and downforce this year, taking a harder tyre – which has nonetheless been a very rare occurrence this season – was the only sensible option to offer a number of different strategy variables. Balancing its durability against the extra performance of the softer compounds will hold the key to the race tactics. The weather will obviously play a big part in these calculations too.
