The Verizon IndyCar Series is set to get an additional driver on the grid for final race of the season, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma next month.

Andretti Autosport look set to run Jack Harvey in a fifth Honda powered Dallara in the California event.

The news comes after McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown confirmed that Fernando Alonso will not return to the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2017 following reports that the Spaniard would take part in the final race.

It turns out the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma conflicts with the Japanese Grand Prix.

Harvey drove a sixth Michael Andretti entry in 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 alongside Fernando Alonso and Andretti Autosport’s full-time drivers Takuma Sato (who won the race), Ryan Hunter Reay, Alexander Rossi and Marco Andretti.

The news of Harvey’s addition to the final race of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series comes as Fernando Alonso considers his future with his McLaren contract up at the end of the season.

Paddock Eye understands that Alonso who will decide his future in September has several options for 2018 which includes the possibility of moving to the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time.

The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season finale, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma takes place on September 17. For more information visit –
