Former Verizon IndyCar Series driver turned team owner Sarah Fisher says that Josef Newgarden who won his first career title earlier this month earned his title. Newgarden made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing driving the No.67 Chevrolet in 2012 at the age of 21.
Newgarden spent four seasons with SFHR then CFR before the team become Ed Carpenter Racing in ahead of the start of the 2016 season.
In 2015, Newgarden scored his first career wins with Fisher in Alabama and in Toronto. The Tennessee native finished the season in seventh place and in 2016 with Ed Carpenter Racing, Newgarden showed how good a driver is when he won in Iowa despite breaking his collarbone and his wrist in Texas, the previous race.
Speaking to IndyCar.com, Fisher said that Newgarden works just as hard in the car as he does out of the car and that really showed in 2017 when he won four races on his way to the Verizon IndyCar Series championship.
Fisher is still involved in the Verizon IndyCar Series as she is the official pace car driver.
