Andretti Auosport’s Colton Herta in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda scored his tenth-career NTT INDYCAR SERIES NTT P1 Award in Road America on Saturday.
The Californian set a time of 01:40.1945s and starts the race just ahead of his former INDY NXT teammate Pato O’Ward. Speaking following the action, Herta said:
“Big props to the team, the guys did amazing. The car was fantastic to drive, and it makes our job easier when the car is good to drive like that. The Gainbridge Honda was on rails; I was really comfortable inside the car and it shows. It was pretty crazy out there with the new paving. The unwritten goal was to see if we could do The Carousel flat – I think we lifted a little bit but it was pretty damn close. We have a good shot at tomorrow.”
Kyle Kirkwood in the No.27 AutoNation Honda starts the race from P6 but failed to set a time in the Firestone Fast 6 after suffering a mechanical issue. Speaking following the action, he commented saying:
“We had an extremely productive day across the board from the Andretti Autosport team. The No. 27 AutoNation Honda went from being 19th yesterday to punching in the top 10. We even got into the Firestone Fast Six and had a potential shot at pole. Hats off to the entire team. They did a phenomenal job and we’re starting P6. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to compete in the Firestone Fast Six, but we felt like we would’ve been able to challenge the front row just like Colton did. We have a good place to start for the race tomorrow.”
Romain Grosjean in the No.28 Delaware Life /DHL Honda starts the race from 19th place and speaking following the action he commented saying:
“It was a very disappointing qualifying. We found an issue on the No. 28 Delaware Life / DHL Honda, so tomorrow should be a better day. Road America is always a track where you can pass, so that’s our target.”
Devlin DeFrancesco starts the race from 12th place and speaking following the action he commented saying:
“First qualifying of the year where I’m happy to be able to get through our group. I’m happy with the No. 29 Evtec crew – everyone has done a solid job all weekend. I think we missed a little bit of race security in that Fast 12 run and that hurt us a little bit, but overall happy with our starting point for tomorrow. Also happy to have an extra set of blacks for tomorrow; I think that’s going to be the name of the game.”
