Scuderia AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost has confirmed that NTT IndyCar Series driver Colton Herta was on their shortlist for the 2023 Formula One season.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix, Tost said that Red Bull had considered Colton Herta to compete alongside Yuki Tsunoda for next season however, the FIA’s decision not to grant the American a Super Licence.
Tost said that it would have made commercial sense to have Herta in the team particularly for the U.S market but it didn’t work.
Although it has been announced officially, reports in the U.S say that Colton Herta has signed a multi-year contract extension with Andretti Autosport to remain in the NTT IndyCar Series.
Scuderia AlphaTauri announced on Friday that former Mercedes Formula E driver Nyck de Vries, who made his Formula One debut with Williams earlier this season will drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda next season.
